SQUARE ROOTS GROUP SHOW

This group exhibition in December 2019 with my seven Thrive Art Studio mates features 6x6 and 8x8 inch images on wood panel, at Coup Salon in Chinatown. Even though we all worked with different media and subject matter, it all came together in such a beautiful and fun show.

THE DENSITY OF LIGHT

I was honoured to show at Visual Space Gallery in December 2019. The series of purely abstract paintings is a new direction for me: an experiment in the expression of movement and balance. In a world saturated with words and noise, what a beautiful silent place it is to communicate only with colour and line.  I see in these paintings the influence of my other areas of practice: the multiple layers of collage, as well as the flat colour planes of printmaking. The paintings begin with an area of deep darkness, after which I lay down areas of colour overlapping line, pattern and transparent washes. The work is evocative of landscapes, weather, dreams, and half-forgotten memories. A strong interest in my artistic process is the idea of balance. For example, a healthy life includes acknowledgement of difficulty and challenge, as well as joy and success. In my art I strive to use composition, colour and line to achieve balance.
